How to Survive a Haunted House

Go with Family and Friends – Going with those you are close with and trust can lessen the stress of going through an extremely scary and intense haunted house.  It can also make the experience more enjoyable if you are all being scared and startled together.  Keep in mind that most haunted houses aren’t recommended for children under the age of 14.

Go in a Group – Remember the old adage “strength in numbers?”  Well, it certainly applies to a haunted house.  When there are just two or there of you, things tend to seem a lot scarier.  Gather a group together to go and you will likely find the entire experience more enjoyable and thrilling rather than terrifying.

Prepare Yourself to be Scared – Isn’t that the whole point of a haunted house?  It’s all about shocking and terrifying and scaring the living daylights out of people so prepare yourself to be scared!  If you have a phobia that you might encounter in a haunted house (such as claustrophobia or you’re scared of clowns), make sure you enter each room cautiously and stick close to your group.

Follow the Rules – Most haunted houses will explain the rules or have them clearly posted before you enter.  Make sure you follow each rule; they are in place to ensure your safety and enjoyment.  Most importantly, do not touch the actors or inhabitants and no matter how scared you get, remember that they are not allowed to touch you either.

Remain Calm – As frightened as you may be, try to remain calm and bear in mind that none of it is real.  It is simply there for your enjoyment and all of it is staged.  To calm yourself, take a few deep breaths or hold tight onto someone in your group.

Have Fun! – Haunted houses are there for people to have fun, so make sure you enjoy yourself!  Don’t run around freaked out and screaming like a maniac – this will certainly not foster an experience you enjoy and you’ll likely annoy those around you.  Let yourself get spooked and enjoy it!

Don’t Forget to Relieve Yourself – One last word of advice…consider using the restroom before you enter a haunted house.  If you don’t, you may have a rather unpleasant experience when you are petrified by a zombie jumping out at you!
